Modiism: Ideology, Polarization, and Threats to Indian Society

Today in India the term Modiism is alternatively used for the Modi policies and ideas. “isms’ are often used as labels to categorize complex belief systems or political theories, which can lead to oversimplification and misunderstandings. “isms” can contribute to polarization and division within societies. When people strongly adhere to a particular ideology, they may become less open to considering alternative perspectives, leading to conflicts and social fragmentation. Throughout history, extreme ideologies and “isms” have been associated with atrocities and human rights abuses. For instance, Nazism, Stalinism, and even extreme nationalism called as chauvinism led to millions of deaths and immense suffering. These examples illustrate how rigid adherence to an ideology can led to disastrous consequences. “isms” can impede progress and adaptation to changing circumstances. When individuals or societies are bound by a particular ideology, they may resist necessary changes or reforms that challenge their established beliefs. “isms” are often used as tools for gaining and maintaining power. Political leaders may manipulate ideologies to rally support, justify policies, or marginalize opposition. This instrumentalization can lead to authoritarianism and the suppression of dissent.

Modiism is not distinct from the same “ism”. Today, India is under the shadow of Modi’s ideology. It’s the ideology of RSS which has been haunting minorities in India since its inception. But fortunately, in India till Modi’s government, the RSS ideology was not supported by state machinery on such a mass level. After Modi took over the government, this ideology is imposed and penetrated on such a mass level that today India is at a very threatening position of polarization. Modi’s India is making every field of life threatening for minorities, especially Muslims, and Sikhs are losing their hopes in the pseudo-democratic India of Modi. Only in the last three years, Indian cinema has released twenty anti-Muslim movies which are creating deep grievances in Indian society, and these types of movies are leading to extreme polarization and hate in the society. These movies include; The Kerala Story, the Kashmir Files, Uri: The Surgical Strikes, Pramath, Paltan, and a number of other movies, all of which are based on propaganda against Muslims. The ideology of Modism is targeting the majority for their ideas, as in India, Hindus are the majority; thus, BJP is creating a sense of insecurity and threat in the minds of Hindus. Modi is using the victimization card for Hindus, claiming that Hindu existence is in danger, and then igniting majority Hindu emotions which lead to conflict. In this conflict, Modi presents himself as the savior of Hindus. With this simple way, Modi is achieving his target, and this is the reason that despite unemployment, high prices, increasing pollution, and other environmental problems, declining living standards, poor domestic structure, corruption, declining diplomatic prestige as Canadian crisis is the recent example, but Modi is still in the position to win the 2024 elections because people are voting for Modi not based on his performance but because of the majority dilemma and the Muslim threat that he has fabricated during his eight years of rule.

In Indian politics now, Modiism is synonymous with dictatorship and its reality. In contemporary India, the media is completely under the control of the Modi government; even private channels are dictated from Modi’s office, they only follow Modi’s directions, and all the free speech journalists have left India for Europe and America because they have no place in India under Modism (fascism). Even BJP has the world’s largest social media network, especially its WhatsApp university (thousands of BJP social media workers have made about one million WhatsApp groups and channels in which on a daily basis the Modism ideology is preached as minorities are portrayed as a threat to Hindu existence). These WhatsApp universities are diverting the focus of common men from actual problems towards fabricated Muslim threats. They fabricate different stories and then spread them in these groups, which leads to violence, and violence gives more strength to Modism.

Today, India is facing a number of serious threats. India is facing a high unemployment ratio; according to Reuters 2024, India’s employment rate is nearly 8%. Similarly, India is facing severe food shortages as food security has been a major concern. In 2022, the Global Food Security Index ranked India at 68th out of the 113 major countries in terms of food security. Education and health sectors are also collapsing, as recent scams highlight how fraudulent pharmaceutical industrialists are playing with millions of people in India. Ethnic violence is also at its peak; the Manipur crisis is a major example. Similarly, India now has the largest number of rape cases in the world; even tourists are not safe as recently a Brazilian tourist was brutally gang-raped in India. The farmers are on constant protest, but Modiism is prevailing, and Modi is winning, which is an alarming situation for India’s future, especially the existence of Muslims in India.
